I saw “Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium” starring Dustin Hoffman, Natalie Portman and Jason Bateman this past Saturday night at a 5:25 pm showing at Movies 8 (Yeah, I’m cheap, I know) in Provo, Utah. I was thoroughly delighted by the film. While it had dazzling special effects, this was not the best part. Imbedded in the movie is a wonderful depiction and description of the theme of death, which, thankfully, for its intended audience depicted in a non-violent way and is actually quite illustrative.
VIOLENCE: A kid gets pinned between a door and oversized dodge ball, but is unharmed.
IMMORALITY: Natalie Portman is seen in a cleavage revealing formal dress at a piano in a mall for a few seconds.
PROFANITY: None (not even Deity’s name taken in vain) which is rare these days in most television shows. I didn’t even notice any “mild innuendo”. It was extremely refreshing.
I highly recommend this feature. I especially enjoyed Jason Bateman’s performance. I haven’t seen him in any movies (or shows) for a long, long time.
