“Meet the Robinsons” Review

I saw “Meet the Robinsons” at the Provo Towne Centre on Thursday, April 19th. Pixar Animation Studios never ceases to amaze me with its stunning visual representations. The opening sequence and specifically the texture of some pillars on the exterior of a building looked nothing less than photographic in quality.

It is the practice in my reviews to lean away from a synopsis of the storyline and toward a review of possible offensive content. However, let me quickly interject this about the storyline: While the endcaps were heart-warming, charming, endearing and had a good moral, the in between stuff was too silly for me to fully enjoy it. I don’t know what it was exactly. Perhaps I was expecting something more serious or something that took itself less seriously in every way. It seemed like the story writers couldn’t quite find the right balance (a difficult balance to perform I admit) between comedy and drama.

What I’m saying is that the storyline was polished–I’m sure it had been through several drafts and revisions–but it just struck me as a little bizarre.

Profanity: None

Immorality: None

Violence: A dinosaur hedge comes to life and chases some people. There are some mild verbal threats scattered throughout the movie.

I recommend this movie only if you don’t care whether the movie can decided if it’s a comedy or a drama. I’m still not sure which it is.

In fact, there was an old Disney short that played before the feature that entertained me more. It had Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy in a ridiculous scenario.
