As promised, just last night, I went to see the latest LDS-themed film to be released in theatres: “Beauty and the Beast: A Latter-day Tale”. It’s obviously a low-budget film. The cinematography came out fuzzy and stuttering (on some vertical ‘pan’ shots) on the “big” screen because (I’m safely assuming) it was filmed on digital equipment. This made the movie initially painful to watch until the characters and story exposition started drawing me in a little more. (When I viewed the trailer online, the clarity was fine. Go figure—smaller screen.) The film does have some redeeming qualities, but it may have been better off as a direct-to-DVD release. (more…)
